Kook is one of our Lifestyle Writers for Lifestyle Asia Thailand. Specialising in Drinks and Dining, Kook takes readers on a spicy journey (to say the least), and he never misses a beat.
Can you tell us about your career journey at BurdaLuxury?
This is my third year working at BurdaLuxury. I had worked in the media industry prior to joining, but this is where I really found my niche and passion for the F&B industry.
What’s the most exciting part of your job?
I would say the abundance of networking opportunities. Getting to experience the food and drinks allows me to better understand the craft, thus setting my writing apart from our competitors. I’m growing as a person as I grow my writing.
What three words would you use to describe being a part of the Lifestyle Asia team?
Writers can’t do math.
That’s four words, Kook.. but point taken.
What’s a milestone that you’ve been proud of achieving?
Getting recognised by people of the industry means a lot. Recently, I wrote “The Best Bars in Bangkok for Breaking Up with Somebody” and that feels great. The interview columns I run have also been so fun to write.
What inspired you to work in publishing/media?
I was an English tutor, and I noticed I wanted to zoom in on my writing skills. When I got the chance, I took it, ran with it, and not slowing down anytime soon.
Who were some of your biggest influences growing up?
My dad is in the navy, and growing up really inspired me to not be like him. Also, Donna Summer.
What is a project that you’re currently working on (if you’re at liberty to say)?
So Lifestyle Asia is working on new video projects, and I get to host one with a great premise, “LSA Single & Spicy.” I basically go around asking single people of Bangkok relationship questions and see if the public is missing out or absolutely right about them. It’s great fun working with the team.
Lastly, why BurdaLuxury?
BurdaLuxury allows me to insert my personality into my work. I can also work towards having a specific field of expertise, in my case, beverages. It’s not uncommon for many media in Thailand to write about things they don’t know about.
