Joyce Lim is the Art Director at AugustMan Malaysia, the spear header behind all monthly issues’ concepts and themes.
What sort of duties do you have at work?
As an art director for AugustMan Malaysia, I work with our editorial team to come up with concepts and themes for each month’s issue. On top of the magazine layouts, I style and art direct personality and fashion photoshoots.
What’s something you find challenging about your work?
Coming up with new and fresh concepts every month can be a challenge especially during this lockdown period. We have to make full use of the limited resources we have to make our concept work.
What sort of duties do you have at work?
A trend that definitely needs a comeback is physical books / magazines. To be able to hold a book / magazine in your hand offers a different understanding to the story as compared to reading off mobile or laptop.
What’s the top destination on your must-visit list?
As we all have been home bound for more than a year, the urge to travel is strong, especially for a travel bug like me. The top destination for me after this is over would probably be a caravan roadtrip in NZ.
What are the values that drive you?
Passion is something that is very important in the creative industry. To constantly find inspiration and new ideas is what drives me to continue to create.
What’s the best advice you can give to someone who just started their career?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions. It is the only way to improve.
